Following the company’s fiscal year 2024/2025 earnings report, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick provided some updates on Grand Theft Auto 6. Currently planned to launch next year, he clarified that it’s unlikely to arrive before April 2025. Considering the massive buzz for the title, with over 174 million views to date, how did Zelnick feel about the trailer leaking beforehand?
For those unaware, Rockstar Games set a specific time and date for the trailer’s reveal, only to have it leak on Twitter prior. It led to the official trailer going live immediately. Speaking to IGN before Take-Two’s earnings call, Zelnick said that it was “disappointing” but didn’t feel it hurt the team.
“It’s amazing when the trailer announcement is huge news, and then we were very gratified when the trailer broke the internet… so we couldn’t be happier or more excited. In terms of the leak, that’s always disappointing for the team, but ultimately, I don’t think it hurt us.”
The first leak the title faced was in September 2022, with over 50 minutes of early footage leaking. Hacker Arion Kurtaj, part of Lapsus$, was alleged to be responsible but later deemed psychiatrically unfit for trial. Following the leak, Take-Two assured it didn’t influence the game’s development.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. Zelnick noted the team is “seeking perfection, and when we feel we’ve optimized creatively, that’s the time to release.” Stay tuned in the coming months for more updates.
